Weird & Wonderful

Hi there Abyss...it's been a while since I've posted.
Well, I have been busy working on commissions and my latest series of work. As well as raising two boys on my own.
This series 'Weird & Wonderful' is focused on unusual, uncommon, or unknown animals and creatures from around the world. I wanted to give the viewer a feeling of these animals being in a different world or dimension, one that is from the past or untouched by humans. Using a take on vignetting, these animals are sitting between the different plains, while being framed in an organic shape.

The beauty of nature is so simple, so using techniques to create a realistic finish I feel is all that is needed. #weird&wonderful #sloth #swordbilledhummingbird #caracal #glassfrog #jeroba

Tiger. Finished for now.

The Tiger. I've been off game lately...was nursing my dog through his last few months suffering from cancer. I am hoping I'll be up to drawing him soon.

Lions and Tigers and Bears...oh my!

The Tiger.
Really enjoyed working on a different animal and species for my subject matter. Such a majestic creature. Depicting the fur with light and shadow hitting it was a great challenge. Such subtle contrasts.

Where I'm at update

As an artist I have always had trouble with 'artist block'.

urbandictionary.com says 'It's when you run out of ideas to draw things off, and temporarily loose all motivation to do anything art related.'
This is somewhat true for me, but mostly is a combination of subject matter, medium, style and, finished piece. So, pretty much all aspects.

Lately I've had a bit of a block, but hopefully I can push past any and not be absent for too long. So coming up, I'm going to be branching out and trialling different subject matter. The medium of black pencil will remain, but I'll see where my intuition leads me in the moment as to what style I use. I'm aiming to complete at least a couple of pieces a week, but will let life's influences ulimately rule what I get done.

Keep popping in to see what produce, and feel free to comment.
